What a Wild Spirit Brings: Chapter 59

Friends stay friends when they are honest with each other. Even when that honesty is horrible and hard, true friends pull together when things are at their worst, and false friends are only around when things are good, or they want something.

Some people are alright with friends who only need them, who mooch off of them, who trail in the wake of their success, but such people grow wearisome, and over time, drain one dry.

Some people like someone to celebrate with, and would rather hide away alone when they hurt, suffering on their own, not wanting anyone to see them in their moments of weakness. But pride leaves relationships hollow after a while, and one's friends will realize there is no depth to the friendship, or else feel that they are considered untrustworthy and become hurt.

Some people are introverts. I would be considered one myself. I have very few friends, because I do not consider acquaintances friends, nor do I find myself drawn to people in a constant basis. It is actually hard for me to keep friends, because I get distracted, and because it is so very much easier to hibernate in my home alone away from the world.

But everyone needs someone. We are created for community, and thus, I do have a couple people who I am always honest with as much as I possibly can be, and who I try to remember to reach out to once in a while of my own accord. I force myself to be social with them, despite the fact that being around people leaves me tired, simply because I love them, and have real relationships with them, the kind where we would die for each other; would offer our kidney to each other. To me, anything less isn't real friendship, nor worth investing in, but then, I realize that I am probably the black sheep in this regard.

What a Wild Spirit Brings: Chapter 58

The easiest way, and most common way (in my experience) to create problems in life is by disregard. Not paying attention, being lazy, giving only a partial thought, not noticing- these are the workers of pain, far more often than even machinations of the malicious.

How many abusers were unaware of what they were really doing because they turned their mind off to it? How many people neglected a child and it became dire? Who helps the down-trod by looking the other way or being busy, and yet, who hasn't done it? We justify it, make excuses for it, but the truth is that our lack of caring as a species for each other is what causes the most harm to us all.

Future generations will suffer for our selfishness, just as we did the generations before. Whole races of people, whole species of animals have been wiped out in the name of our comfort, without thinking about their own. We destroy our futures for want in our present. And we blind ourselves to the true nature of procrastination, of mindlessness, because if we actually could see the effects of our own behavior, we would die from the weight of what we do.

We hurt others, those whom we love and strangers alike, by being careless.

What a Wild Spirit Brings: Chapter 57

If you express your talents and seek to help others, always, they will respond. You don't have to be against people. You don't have to shout your opinions or get red-faced about things that you are opposed to.

Rather, work toward what you wish for, what you want, for others, for the world, for yourself. Pursue things you are for, instead of wasting breath on what you are against, and you will find people you never expected to will unite with your cause eager to help.

Work your gifts. People will be in awe of them. Your talents will bring more peace than your anger. Your positive desires will fuel more happiness for everyone than your rage. Righteous anger might feel justified, but in the end, kindness, and creativity are what makes one an advocate for humanity.

What a Wild Spirit Brings: Chapter 56

Lyl took a very large risk, and though at first it seemed to be that good fortune was on her side, her daring brought tribulation. She had been willing to suffer to protect her brother, and willing to go, because a friend was with her, but after the exhaustion and the struggle, all there really was left were enemies stilled and a friend near death, with Lyl too tired to do anything useful about either.

Life has moments where the odds are bad no matter which way you choose. Life has times, where protecting one loved one means another is put in harms way. All you can do is try to survive it and find a method to the madness, one which might, just might, bring you and yours out alive. But even if you can, even if luck is with you, there are times in life, no matter how hard you try, no matter how in the right you are, that you and those you love will not come out unscathed.

What a Wild Spirit Brings: Chapter 55

Lyl has discovered that having feelings for someone, and they for you, that the mutual attraction is not the same as love. She can accept this, because it is easy to believe that someone could be attracted, and difficult to imagine someone loving her, at this juncture in her confidence. There was a time, when she could not even imagine as much as mutual attraction.

Her strength of character makes it easy for her to care, and her habit of blaming herself for wrong makes it hard to accept affection. She is genuinely shocked when another shows empathy, let alone closeness, which is why it means so much to her, and gives her such courage. Her friendship with Ginf makes even the horrors of a strange people who might have made the worst blight on the face of the world and who can wield light as a weapon seem only mere people to be confronted.

Lyl, driven by love for her brother and a responsibility to uphold how highly Ginf holds her, steps into the shadows of the Tongues.

What a Wild Spirit Brings: Chapter 54

Lyl has finally reconciled what happened to her. Lyl pursued and chose her own sense of closure about it, with her own efforts to be better and to think of those around her, the people who loved her and she loved. By caring about them, she found herself caring for her own sake as well. By being loved, she found love what she yearned to give.

It took time. It took pain. It was not easy. But it was worthwhile. The wound is finally closed over, no longer burning with suffering, twisting every other experience and perception. There is only a memory,  and life can finally move on, without thoughts of that moment of her life in the background. Lyl freed herself. Lyl forgave.

What a Wild Spirit Brings: Chapter 53

Near death experiences make life so appreciated. Nothing feels as bright as opening your eyes when you thought you would never open them again, or makes you more aware of all your surroundings.
Likewise, it makes one aware of all wrongs done, all loved ones who have suffered, and the gratitude you owe them. People are precious, and realizing that the person who has wrought them the most harm is yourself is to understand a horrible truth. To repent is not enough. To ask forgiveness will not redeem. One must despise what they were before, when they were deceptive and weak, leeching the life of others. One must be so completely aggrieved that they change. It will send one heading down a different path, with a different motivation for all that is done, and even more, will be the sudden influx of strength that had been thought unimaginable.
Shaking her head at old dependencies and mooching, Lyl has finally discarded childish selfishness, understanding the harm her self interest causes those she loves. She has finally stepped into womanhood, in a single moment of clarity, that held all like a clamp.

What a Wild Spirit Brings: Chapter 52

Lyl has discovered her wild spirit leads her to very scary situations in which she could even possibly lose herself, and yet, the thrill of overcoming, and the delight in her quick mind. She has found pride in her fear, for herself and an understanding of her capabilities, but in being swept up in herself, she forgot about the others in her life, and brought danger to herself and her teacher.
Now, to her horror, she has learned how much damage her rash behavior can really cause in a life. Before, people were harmed somewhat by her mistakes, but also, it was in part some outside, uncontrollable force, that wrought havoc for her friends. Henri was ill. Munchin was crazy. Those things were not her fault. This time, she alone had caused the pain in another's life. She was the only reason.
And on top of all of this, she now had to be dragged away from her body in a wrenching of panic and pain. It was all too much sensory too quickly. Overwhelmed, Lyl embraces the darkness gladly.

What a Wild Spirit Brings: Chapter 51

And so Lyl is now encountering a whole new, unimaginable wonder; an experience so rare and amazing that it is on the verge of frightening. She can stare in awe, breath caught, at this new level of understanding because she earned the right to enjoy the privilege. Her willingness to be humble, her eagerness to learn, and her raw talents spurred her past what the average person gets to do, transcending what is normal and finding herself in a wonderland of possibility.

Perhaps daily life may not be the Wilder, but even the mediocre lives of the people pining for more might proceed toward things beyond imagining and places of joy and learning. It all depends on your attitude toward it. Foreign does not mean bad; not in experiences nor with people. The unknown should register as a means to adventure and knowledge, and not drive one toward fear and remaining stagnant.

Lyl finds herself constantly moving forward into new unknowns, glittering with possibility and thrill, and she has finally begun to enjoy the ride instead of dreading the future. Her shift in mindset has brought her beyond the furthest reaches of two worlds now- into the realm of dreams.

What a Wild Spirit Brings: Chapter 50

Lyl has been confronted about her own self-identity and her values about her self-worth. These are things she has always avoided thinking about, and continues to do so even now. She does not want to know, but the confrontation has been presented, which means  that she will have to deal with it in the future, and that knowledge alone is enough for now.
Lyl also has reconciled with her friends and now everyone is planning and smiling. There is anticipation for the future, rather than dread.
Lyl, in her gladness and excitement, has forgotten the mission, and what fearful unknown trials may lie ahead...

What a Wild Spirit Brings: Chapter 49

New creatures encountered and something as normal as seasickness can chase even the curious mind from excitement. Having a friend who is still angry with her could also have helped her to decide on the mental fleeing as well. It is especially hard to rectify mistakes when you partially agree with the accusations, and yet, also have someone defending your character.
Lyl might have the spirit to fight monstrous creatures and rescue the weak from bad people, but when someone she loves is upset with her, running away is still her first instinct.
