What a Wild Spirit Brings: Chapter 33

When you have been through some trials in life, and start letting them overwhelm you, it ages your face, drawing lines on your skin, engraving each worry that it remains embedded in you. People can see what kind of life you have had, just looking at you, and respond in a first impression to the residuals of hardship they see as much as anything you say.

Your tone resonates in them, and some feel compassion, some look down, judging you for not being stronger, but a rare few have enough insight to understand, and these few are precious.

Lyl has finally met such a person, who embraces her without ever touching her, with his honesty. This person gives her hope, and helps her to remember what good is in her life, shifting her focus from all that is bad to that which is good, without him ever telling her that she has to or she will rot inside. There are no warnings about her future, only assurance that it is possible to have a future different than the past.

What a Wild Spirit Brings: Chapter 32

Lyl is in an extremely awkward situation, and on top of that, feels trapped. Honor forcing her to remain in this situation, despite discomfort, makes her overwhelmed with a need to belong to the experience, instead of being the outcast, but she doesn't fit, being the elephant in the room. Lacking purpose, feeling embarrassed, and doubting her own resolve, she loses focus of what brought her here in the first place, as important as that reason was.

Most people in this situation either cower and wait for something to happen, or, more commonly, run, either mentally or physically. Lyl's choice is obvious.

It takes a strong will to face a setting where you hold none of the cards, and everyone not only has a winning deck, but have relationships, leaving you the only defenseless stranger. Someone as distrusting as Lyl would certainly have trouble believing that everyone truly only has her best at heart.
